Company News >> BOE OLED panel is officially certified by Apple iPhone 14 9th,Oct,2022
According to information upstream and downstream of the industry chain, Chinese panel manufacturer BOE's AMOLED panel has been certified by Apple for the iPhone 14 last week.

On Thursday, BOE received notification from Apple that the iPhone 14AMOLED panel had been certified. BOE will put into mass production in advance in July and start batch shipment in September. This certification was passed earlier than the previous iPhone 12 and 13 series in that year's date.

BOE previously shipped 6.1-inch panels for iPhone 12 in December 2020 and iPhone 13 in October 2021. Based on past shipment history, at least 5 million iPhone 14-oriented AMOLED panels are expected to ship in 2022, the year of certification.

Apple's iPhone 14 series, which is expected to be released on September 13, will come in four models: the iPhone 14, the 14 Max (and possibly the Plus), the 14 Pro and the 14 Max Pro. Of these, BOE will supply 6.1-inch LTPSOLED panels for the standard iPhone 14 model. Apple iPhone14 AMOLED panel information

In 2022, Apple will purchase more than 90 million flexible AMOLED panels for the iPhone 14. According to industry estimates, Samsung Display (SDC) will supply 60 million, LGD will supply 25 million, and BOE will supply more than 5 million.

Apple may be scaling back iPhone production plans due to global economic uncertainty. In 2022, Apple will purchase about 210 million flexible AMOLED panels from Samsung Display, LGD and BOE, with a volume structure of about 65:24:11 from the three suppliers, along with older iPhone 12 and 13 models already on the market.

BOE shipped more than 16 million OLED phone panels to Apple in 2021, according to RUNTO, and the OLED iPhone account for about 10% of Apple's total. In 2022, BOE shipments to the iPhone 13 were impacted by a supply shortage of display driver chips. BOE shipped about 9.5 million AMOLED panels to Apple in the first half, a 66% year-over-year increase despite falling short of expectations. For the full year, BOE's AMOLED panel shipments to Apple are projected to grow by approximately 40% based on current supply patterns.

In addition, Chinese AMOLED panel makers CSOT and Visionox are actively sending samples to Apple.

The next goal is LTPO OLED product development

Overall demand for consumer electronics remains sluggish amid rising inflation pressures around the world, but less price-sensitive consumers remain willing to opt for higher-end iPhone models.

So, BOE's goal is to complete Apple's LTPO OLED product development by 2022.

The LTPO OLED panel for the iPhone 13 was once exclusively supplied by Samsung Display, and Samsung will continue to maintain its technological and production edge in 2022. However, Apple wants to reduce its dependence on Samsung, rather than increase its dependence on Samsung.

In this year's iPhone 14 series, Samsung Display will offer both 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch LTPO models. As planned, LGD will also supply 6.7-inch LTPO panels, which will be LGD's first batch supply of AMOLED flexible panels for LTPO backplanes to Apple. According to the upstream and downstream information of the industry chain, LGD's LTPO OLED panel certification progress has been delayed; Samsung's display capacity is also limited.

BOE shipped more than 60 million flexible OLED panels in 2021, up more than 65% year over year, according to RUNTO. About 55 million of those OLED panels were shipped for smartphones.

At the end of last year, BOE had realized the import of OLED panels for almost all the world's mainstream mobile phone brands, including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Honor and so on.

On July 4, Huawei held a new product launch event and unveiled its nova10 Pro flagship product. Boe's 6.78-inch ring screen flexible OLED panel is compatible with multi-frequency refresh rate mode, with a maximum 120Hz variable speed brush and 300Hz touch screen sampling rate. In this panel, BOE reduces the harm of blue light by migrating the peak position of harmful blue light in the OLED spectrum, thus realizing the advantage of healthy eye protection of flexible OLED panel.
