Vizio, the largest TV manufacturer in the United States, will launch its first OLED TV next year. LG Display said in the latest press release that 15 TV brands worldwide have chosen to join the OLED camp. In 2020, Vizio will become the 16th TV brand with OLED technology. Other brands include LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba, B&O, Skyworth, Hisense and others.
Vizio, Samsung, and TCL have always been solid fans of QLED technology. Although Vizio officially joined the OLED camp, it is expected to launch OLED products only in the high-end market, and next year the company will continue to use LCD technology in most TV products. According to media reports, Samsung has also begun to switch from LCD to OLED TV, while domestic TCL is also developing hybrid OLED and quantum dot display technology.
LG Display said in a press release that with the official launch of the 8.5th generation OLED panel factory in Guangzhou, China, LG Display will further accelerate the OLED trend in the global high-end TV market by providing large-size OLED panels to the world. Data show that global sales of OLED TVs reached 2.9 million units in 2018, and it is expected to reach 3.8 million units this year. Research firm IHS Markit predicts that the market will further expand to 5.5 million units in 2020, to 7.1 million units in 2021 and to 10 million units by 2022.
