                                             Display panel shipments and area double decline

Following the slight decline in display panel shipments in the first quarter, the second quarter still maintained a downward trend. According to statistics from Sigmaintell, shipments in the first quarter fell by 2.5% year-on-year, and the decline in the second quarter expanded to 6.4%. In the first half of the year, the total global display panel shipments were 69.383 million units, down 4.4% year-on-year, and the shipment area fell 0.7% year-on-year. The overall performance of the display panel market was lower than expected. Sigmaintell believes that the main reasons for the weak demand for stocking in the whole market are as follows:

1. Declining overall purchasing power due to global economic uncertainty;

2. The whole machine manufacturer is committed to digesting inventory. In 2018, due to the early dumping caused by the Sino-US trade war, the inventory in the North American market remained high in the first quarter of 2019, and the pulling strength was insufficient. In addition, the Asia-Pacific region was mainly in the downturn of the B2B market in the Chinese market, which also led to insufficient shipments;

The intensification of trade friction between China and the United States in March caused the brand to shift its strategic focus to the planning and layout of the foundry, and the product shipping strategy and promotion strategy were conservative.

BOE shipments number one LGD shipment area first

In the first half of the year, the structure of the display panel shippers was generally stable, BOE shipments remained the first, LGD followed, Taiwan enterprises reached the third and fourth, SDC ranked fifth, and finally CEC panda and CSOT. From the shipping area, LGD ranked first in the BOE.

BOE was greatly affected by the overall market downturn, with 16.3 million units shipped, ranking first in the world, but still facing a 11.7% decline year-on-year, and the shipment area fell 8.7% year-on-year. In particular, the small size of 21.5 inches and below has a large decline, but shipments above 23 inches have increased. Therefore, on the one hand, BOE is actively looking for new seaports. On the other hand, it is also increasing the narrow-frame, high-resolution and other high-end products, and speeding up the development progress on the e-sports surface.

LGD shipments were 15.32 million units, down 8.8% year-on-year, and shipments fell 6.5% year-on-year. In the case of continued decline in display panel prices, LGD's display business strategy focuses on profitability, adjusts production capacity in response to demand, and does not blindly follow price wars for impact shipments, but its competitiveness in IPS and high-resolution market is maintained in e-sport products. The planning is also relatively positive, and the market performance is expected to strengthen in the second half of the year.

AUO shipments reached 12.6 million units, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year, and the shipment area increased by 6.6% year-on-year. Its 19.5-inch drop was sharp, but AUO quickly adjusted its product mix. The 27-inch replacement of 19.5 inches became its top3 size, making up for the decline in shipments of 19.5 inches in the first half of the year. In addition, AUO continues to promote IPS e-sports and high-performance e-sports display with mini LED backlight technology this year, in an effort to further increase the added value of the product.

Innolux shipped 12.01 million units, down 11.2% year-on-year, while shipments fell 7.5% year-on-year. Its main dimensions of 21.5, 23.6, and 19.5 inches all fell sharply year-on-year. Its size of 23.8 inches and above has a large growth rate, but the medium and large size product series are still relatively weak, and the overall market is greatly affected. In response to market changes, Innolux optimized the product structure to shift to high-generation lines, and on the other hand increased IPS capacity for product upgrades.

SDC shipments reached 7.65 million units, down 4.3% year-on-year, and shipments fell 1.6% year-on-year. Driven by China's "618" and the demand for Internet cafes, SDC's shipments rebounded in the second quarter. Its main dimensions were 27-inch, 23.8-inch, and 23.6-inch, which increased steadily year-on-year, and 23 and 24 inches dropped significantly. In addition to deep ergonomics and high value-added products, SDC is also actively expanding the Ultrawide market. It is expected that new products will be mass-produced in the second half of the year, and the product line will be further improved.

CEC Panda shipped 5.11 million units, a year-on-year increase of 50.3%, and the shipment area increased by 61.7% year-on-year. In the first half of the year, CEC panda introduced more brand customers and shipments grew steadily. At the same time, there are layout and mass production in e-sports and high-resolution products. With the increase of new products in the second half of the year and the increase in IPS production capacity, it is expected that the shipment situation will be more active.

CSOT shipments of 410,000 pieces, product planning for e-sports and curved surfaces, is expected to be actively promoted, and strive to increase shipments in the second half of the year.
