Company News >> Increase AMOLED panel investment BOE or will surpass Samsung display 1st,March,2019
According to industry sources, due to the continuous increase in the rate of return from government subsidies, BOE will endanger the leading position of Samsung Display's flexible AMOLED panels by the end of 2019.

BOE is optimistic about the growth potential of AMOLED technology, and has invested heavily in this area, including hiring high-end talent from South Korea to increase profitability. According to the established policy, BOE announced plans to start construction of the third 6th generation flexible AMOLED panel production line in Chongqing, China by the end of 2018, with a total investment of 46.5 billion yuan (about 6.86 million US dollars). The monthly production capacity of glass substrates is expected to reach 48,000 pieces. .

It is reported that BOE began mass production of the first 6G AMOLED production line in October 2017, and soon began to provide Huawei with small-volume AMOLED panels for the production of Huawei Mate 10 mobile phones.

In the third quarter of 2018, BOE successfully surpassed LG Display to become the largest supplier of Huawei's new Mate 20 Pro smartphone AMOLED panel. The significant increase in AMOLED panel yields is critical for BOE to increase shipments.

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), an authoritative information organization in the global display field, BOE's flexible 6.39-inch QHD + AMOLED panel yields slightly higher than 10% in the third quarter of 2018, and increased to 30 in the fourth quarter. %the above. It is estimated that by the end of 2019, the ratio may exceed 50%.

In terms of production costs, BOE will reduce the unit production cost of its 6.39-inch QHD + AMOLED panel to $80 in the fourth quarter of 2018, while Samsung's production cost is $60. It is expected that the production costs of the two companies will be flat in the first quarter of 2019, and by the end of 2019, BOE's production costs are expected to be lower than Samsung's.

In addition to improving yields, BOE successfully increased shipments of AMOLED panels to 1 million units per month in the fourth quarter of 2018, up from 125,000 in the third quarter of 2018.

In addition, in addition to the planned third 6G AMOLED production line, BOE also plans to increase the capacity of Chongqing's first 6G production line from the current 30,000 units to 45,000 pieces per month. At the same time, BOE's second 6G AMOLED production line in Mianyang is currently under construction and is expected to start production by the end of 2019, producing 48,000 glass substrates per month.
