Company News >> Screen technology is emerging, OLED will become the mainstream PC screen in the future 27th,Feb,2019
It is believed that everyone is familiar with the display. Mobile phones, tablets, laptops, TVs, etc. are equipped with display screens. Through their display screens, we can interact with humans and computers, and also get the information they need. Most intuitively, the differences in these displays are only in terms of size, large or small, or long or square. If you look carefully, you can also find that the display effect is also different, and whether the image is delicate, brightness, color, etc. can also be found. Is there only a secret behind the display? Obviously not.

What are our common displays? In simple terms, there are two types: LCD and OLED. The LCD family is much larger than OLEDs, including TFT, UFB, TFD, STN and other types of liquid crystal displays. In addition, LEDs and IPSs are often referred to as LCDs. The OLED is mainly AMOLED launched by Samsung, and LG, AUO, Chi Mei, and Visionox are also major OLED display manufacturers.

LCD screen

Working principle, there are many liquid crystal particles inside the display, which are regularly arranged in a certain shape, and the color of each side of them is divided into: red, green, blue. The three primary colors can be restored to any other color. When the display receives the display data of the computer, it controls each liquid crystal particle to rotate to a different color surface to combine into different colors and images. Also, because of the disadvantages of the liquid crystal display, the color is not bright enough, and the viewing angle is not high. The advantage is that the body is thin, the footprint is small, the radiation is small, and the image of a healthy product is given. However, the LCD screen does not necessarily protect the eyes, which requires the habit of using computers.

At present, LED displays on the market are "LED-backlit liquid crystal displays"; traditional LCDs belong to "CCFL-backlit liquid crystal displays", so LEDs also belong to liquid crystal displays, but differ in backlighting. There is also a LED panel "mercury-free" LED panel, which is more energy-saving and environmentally friendly, and consumes only 60% of the power of ordinary LEDs.

Advantages: LED display integrates microelectronic technology, computer technology and information processing, with its bright color, wide dynamic range, high brightness, high definition, low working voltage, low power consumption, long life, impact resistance, colorful and The advantages of stable and reliable work have become the most advantageous next-generation display media.

IPS display (In-Plane Switching plane conversion, commonly known as "Super TFT") is also the hard screen we often say, it is also a liquid crystal display, only the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules is optimized, and the horizontal arrangement is adopted. When exposed to external pressure, the molecular structure is slightly depressed downward, but the overall molecule is also horizontal. Therefore, the liquid crystal molecular structure of the IPS display is structurally robust and stable due to the soft screen. The simplest way to identify is to tap the screen, and no ripple is the hard screen.

Screen technology is emerging, OLED will become the mainstream PC screen in the future

Due to the horizontal conversion technology, the response speed of the liquid crystal display is faster and more stable, and the image motion track is more delicate and clear, which solves the problem of image smear and jitter. In addition, the performance of the viewing angle, color, and picture also exceeds the traditional LCD display. Nowadays, many notebook products use IPS display screens, users can get clear, true color, no smear jitter, larger size screen, whether it is a good experience in games or office.

LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-silicon), a technology developed to reduce the thickness and power consumption of notebook products. It is a new generation of technology derived from TFT LCD, through the use of conventional amorphous silicon (a-Si). The TFT-LCD panel is manufactured by adding a laser processing process, and the number of components can be reduced by 40%, and the connection portion can be reduced by 95%, which greatly reduces the probability of product failure. This screen has been greatly improved in terms of power consumption and durability, with horizontal and vertical viewing angles of up to 170 degrees, display response time of 12ms, display brightness of 500 nits, and contrast ratio of 500:1.

At present, the screens are used in mobile phones. In the notebook, I only know that the MateBook X Pro launched by Huawei in early 2018 is equipped with this screen, in order to make the products thinner and more power-efficient. The color is more abundant.

OLED display

In addition to a large number of LCD displays, there is also a very good display product, which is an OLED (Origanic Light-Emitting Diode) display. OLED display has the advantages of self-illumination, wide viewing angle, almost infinite contrast, low power consumption and high reaction speed.

Unlike the LCD backlit LCD display, the OLED display has no backlight, and each LED emits light independently, so it can make black black, and also has excellent performance in other colors. The color of many OLED displays we see is generally richer and more vivid than traditional LCD displays. Of course, OLED displays also have some drawbacks, such as burn-in screens and green screens. However, the advantages of OLEDs make it the most promising display technology, and its market size is constantly expanding.

The self-illuminating feature makes it unnecessary to use backlights, which is conducive to the manufacture of shaped screens. Today's popular bangs screens, curved screens, perforated screens, etc. are all OLED displays, and the industry is considered to be the mainstream display in 2019. The foldable screen is also an OLED display.

In fact, OLED displays have been widely used in mobile phones, televisions, head-mounted displays, etc., but in the PC field, there are very few applications, and there are only a handful of notebook products using OLED displays. It may be due to the cost, its own defects and other issues, manufacturers are not willing to choose such a screen, but with the continuous improvement of OLED technology, has been able to achieve long-term stable operation needs, in the future its application in notebooks can be period.

In addition, the innovation of notebook products has been very small, and compared to the traditional CPU, GPU upgrades, screen upgrades have only been valued in recent years, resolution, color, refresh rate are also the most recent years Stir up. Especially with the popularity of the narrow-frame design concept, users have seen the unique experience brought by the screen upgrade.

to sum up:

The display screen is one of the main ways of human-computer interaction, and its role in a product is gradually becoming more and more prominent with the pace of hardware intelligence. Nowadays, the display effect of the display equipped with the product has been able to determine whether a product is worth buying, not to mention that the requirements for the display of the future product are not limited to the color and the resolution itself, and the rise of the shaped screen is unstoppable. In 2019, collapsible mobile phones and tablets will be called the mainstream of the market. Although the technology is not as perfect as thought, the bending and folding of the screen has been realized, and more than one can mass produce such screens.

As an important partner in people's life and work, notebooks are not as fast as mobile phones, but it is foreseeable that in the end of 2019 or early 2020, foldable notebook products will be available. At the Taipei Computer Show last year, ASUS exhibited a notebook product with both B and C screens. Although it is not the first manufacturer to do so, it is still amazing from the industry reaction. It is conceivable. If you replace the two displays with a large, foldable display, would it be a real horse effect? Are you looking forward to it?
