                                         For small and medium-sized TFT LCDs, the definition is smaller than 9.0-inch panels. The main applications are mobile phones, electronic photo frames, digital cameras, and smaller portable computers (such as 7.0-inch, 8.9-inch).

Small and medium-sized panels range in size from 1.0" to 8.9". Applications include game consoles, car monitors, digital cameras, portable PCs, cell phones, multifunction printers, portable DVDs, MP3s, GPS and other applications. Each application has its own unique industry characteristics. For TFT LCD panels, mobile phones, game consoles, digital cameras and on-board displays are the most important applications. In 2012, mobile phone TFT LCD accounted for more than 60% of all small and medium-sized TFT LCD panel shipments; followed by game consoles, accounting for about 10% of shipments;

Affected by the hot sales of mobile smart phones such as mobile phones and tablet PCs, the demand for small and medium-sized LCD panels in 2011 is still strong, with shipments reaching 1.45 billion pieces, of which the annual shipment growth of tablet panels is as high as 217%, and prices are also rising against the trend. . In 2011, Tianma's small and medium-sized panels accounted for 8.8% of the global market share, ranking 6th in the world. The shipment of small and medium-sized panels in mainland China has entered the fast lane of high-speed development. It is estimated that in 2012, the shipment of small and medium-sized LCD panels will reach 1.82 billion.

The biggest market for global smartphones is in China. According to IHS iSuppli's China Research Report, the shipments of smartphones from China's mobile phone suppliers are expected to reach 101.4 million units in 2012, up 94% from the 52 million units in 2011. Although the growth rate will slow down from 2012, the double-digit growth rate will remain at least until 2015, when shipments will reach 188.4 million units.

The contrarian growth of small and medium-sized LCD panels has also attracted the attention of mainstream manufacturers. Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi have merged their respective small and medium-sized LCD panel businesses and plan to capture 20% of the global market share. Sharp also transformed the Kameyama Plant, which originally produced large-size LCD panels, to stop the production capacity of 50% LCD panels, and in turn increased the proportion of small and medium-sized LCD panels.
