Company News >> This year's global AMOLED panel production capacity is expected to reach 7.9 million square meters. 12th,Dec,2018
The global smartphone market is growing slowly. All major manufacturers are actively seeking opportunities to innovate. The high color saturation and thin design of AMOLED panels, together with the flexible panel structure, gradually attract the attention of brand manufacturers. According to the latest research by Wits View, a division of Trend Force's optoelectronics business, the global AMOLED panel production capacity is expected to reach 7.9 million square meters in 2016, an annual growth of 19.1%. Under the active expansion of production capacity in various regional panel factories, it is estimated that the total capacity area in 2018 will be 14.7 million square meters, and the growth rate will nearly double this year.

Wis View senior research manager Fan Bozhen said that Samsung, the world's largest supplier of AMOLED panels, used to only meet the panel needs of its own brands. In 2015, due to the growth of its own brand demand, it was unable to keep up with the expansion speed of Samsung's display capacity. Together with the rise of China's mobile phone brand, Samsung Display began to increase the proportion of AMOLED panels. Under the acceptance of brand owners and the price strategy, AMOLED's overall take-out of Samsung display panels in 2015 accounted for about 20%.

Apple's product trends are still on the horizon. Fan Bozhen pointed out that the possibility that the iPhone will adopt AMOLED panels will ignite the signals that the panel makers will turn their attention to the development of the AMOLED field. In particular, in the past few years, panel manufacturers have actively expanded LTPS production capacity. In the future, oversupply of LTPS capacity will become the norm. Therefore, panel manufacturers regard AMOLED as an opportunity to decompose too much LTPS capacity and re-create market demand.

For a long time, the global AMOLED production capacity is highly concentrated in the hands of Korean panel manufacturers, and Samsung's display has a leading position in small and medium size products. In the past, LG Display (LGD) concentrated its firepower on the development of large-size AMOLED TV panels and stood firm in the large-size AMOLED market. With the latecomers catching up, Wits View estimates that the AMOLED capacity of Korean panel makers will fall from 76% this year to 76% in 2018. The Chinese panel makers will have the opportunity to account for 4% of the total capacity. % pulled up to 19% in one fell swoop.

Fan Bojun further pointed out that the hard AMOLED panel has been developed for a long time, and the appearance is not much different from the current TFT-LCD panel. Therefore, the market expects high potential demand for the flexible AMOLED panel, and also pushes the rear panel factory directly to the flexible AMOLED panel. The intent of the layout. Wits View estimates that the flexible AMOLED panel production capacity will still account for only 13% in 2016, but will climb to 44% in 2018, which will become the focus of future manufacturers to develop AMOLED products.
