Company News >> Why is Sony LCD's new flagship hard OLED so confident? 30th,Nov,2018
For those local tyrants who are pursuing extreme image quality, it is not an exaggeration to spend money on TV sets. Sony recently officially announced the latest flagship LCD TV product line Z series, claiming to be better than the current "king of picture quality" - LG's OLED TV lineup. Even if the actual situation is not so exaggerated, at least the Z-Series screen will be brighter. So, what is Sony's confidence to rely on?

Why is Sony LCD's new flagship hard OLED so confident?

At the Los Angeles conference, which ended not long ago, Sony announced that the latest Z-Series flagship TV subscriptions will begin and will begin shipping at the end of this summer. The most eye-catching product is the $7,000, numbered XBR65Z9D. In addition, Sony also introduced a 75-inch version and a more crazy 100-inch version.

In comparison, the LG 65-inch E6 OLED TV is priced at $6,000, while Samsung's best 65-inch TV 65KS9800 is priced at $4,500. Now that Sony relies on LCD technology to outperform LG's OLED in terms of picture quality, let's take a look at Sony's explanation.

The existing flagship LCD TVs use a technique called "local dimming", in which the LEDs that provide backlighting for the TV can be illuminated, dimmed or turned off in groups. In general, the more such a region, the better the picture quality of the TV.

The Sony Z-series TV also uses local dimming technology, but it is even more counterproductive: every LED responsible for backlighting can be individually adjusted for brightness without interference. In this way, in addition to the significant enhancement of image quality, such technology can effectively reduce the phenomenon of halo and scattering - these two problems are more serious on TVs using traditional local dimming technology.

Sony declined to say how many LEDs the Z-series TV used, saying only "much more than the normal configuration, so the fog on the axis is cut to a minimum." In addition, the so-called "calibrated LED projection" design is mentioned in the statement, which can make the light emitted by the LED more concentrated and avoid blooming.

Although Sony claims that the Z-series TV can achieve high brightness, it has not revealed how many nits it can achieve, just that its brightness is "unprecedented high." In general, however, the actual experience is also a testament to Sony's assertion that higher brightness can make HDR technology even more amazing.

Sony released the Z-series flagship TV, which proves that LCD technology can still have amazing performance even when OLED has been recognized as a major trend in the industry. For the next period of time, the Z-Series is expected to become the TV emperor on the market. Unfortunately, to enjoy such a strong picture quality, a lot of money is indispensable.
