In recent years, along with the development of panel companies, the technology of domestic panel industry supporting enterprises like Rainbow has been continuously broken, and the industrial matching rate has gradually increased. However, the domestic “small and scattered” supporting enterprises lack long-term technical accumulation, and most of them can only provide The panel industry is low-end and the core package can only rely on “big and strong” foreign companies. If China shows that the supporting industry needs to change this passive situation, it needs the upstream and downstream enterprises to cooperate and innovate to build their own core competitiveness and form an industrial ecology.

Supporting localization

Through continuous investment, the production line of LCD panels in mainland China has gradually increased, and the production capacity has been rising. The focus of the global LCD panel industry is accelerating the transfer to mainland China, and China has already taken the lead in the global LCD panel market. According to the research data of the China Optical Optoelectronics Industry Association LCD Branch and a number of consulting organizations, in 2017, China's LCD panel industry has surpassed South Korea to become the world's number one in terms of revenue scale and shipment area. .

At the same time, mainland China is also actively deploying the OLED industry. Through more than a dozen investment in OLED production lines, mainland China has become an important player in the global OLED industry. According to IHS estimates, the Chinese manufacturer's OLED market share will increase from 5% in 2017 to 26% in 2022.

The vigorous development of China's panel industry is providing fertile growth soil for domestic display industry supporting enterprises, and will produce a large number of local supporting enterprises with innovative vitality. At present, enterprises that have sniffed business opportunities have begun to flood into China's display industry supporting market, hoping to gain a share in the huge supporting market.

And those companies that entered China's display industry earlier have a small harvest along with the rise of China's panel industry. The prosperity of China's panel industry is constantly driving the localization of the package. Zhao Yong, general manager of Wuhan Huaxing Optoelectronics pointed out that the localization coverage of Huaxing Optoelectronics increased from 52% in 2013 to 63% in 2017, and the localization coverage of equipment increased from 12% in 2012 to 42% in 2017. Yang Lan, director of OLED procurement at Tianma Microelectronics Group, revealed that Tianma's localization level is over 60%. In 2017, the localization ratio of Tianma membrane group materials was 81%, and the localization ratio of panel materials was 41%. Minister Ge Xing of BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. said that in recent years, the proportion of local purchases of BOE materials and equipment has been rising. The data of some market institutions also show that the localization matching rate is gradually increasing. Relevant data show that under the active promotion of Chengzhi Yonghua, Jiangsu Synthetic, 800 million LCD, Yantai Wanrun, Zhejiang Yongtai, Xi'an Ruilian and Nanjing Jingmei, the localization rate of liquid crystal materials has reached 12% from 2015. It will rise to 35% in 2017 and is expected to reach 42% in 2018.

Moreover, the technology of some liquid crystal material manufacturers is still breaking through, and the localization rate is continuing to increase. Song Xiaolong, director of Jiangsu Synthetic Plant, said that this year's domestic 8K, 4K liquid crystal materials have been mass-produced and adopted by the 10.5 generation line. In Jiangsu, the localization rate of liquid crystal materials will be further increased to 16-18% in 2018. Xu Jintao, general manager of Jingmei, revealed that they have developed a fast response and high stability TFT liquid crystal material with independent IP, and independently developed key material testing equipment.

In addition to liquid crystal materials, other domestic materials have also achieved good results. SEMI statistics show that the localization rate of polarizer and optical film is 30%, the localization rate of photoresist is 5%, the localization rate of wet electronic chemicals is 38%, and the localization rate of electronic special gas is 48%. The localization rate of luminescent materials is 10%. According to JiChuang North, the localization matching rate of JiChuang North's driver chips has increased to 4%. Longhua Technology revealed that in 2018, Longhua Technology series high-end target-Mo target and ITO target are continuously and stably supplied in many domestic TFT-LCD panel production lines, especially for G8.5 ITO target and MO target. The G11MO target achieved breakthrough in localization.

At present, although the equipment localization matching rate is not as high as that of materials, some technological breakthroughs have begun to appear. Domestic companies and high corrections have actively promoted the localization of display industry equipment. It is understood that Xiamen Tianma and Shanghai Microelectronics Equipment (Group) Co., Ltd. jointly developed a high-resolution TFT exposure machine, marking a major breakthrough in the localization of equipment in China's new display industry. Shanghai University and Shanghai Microelectronics Equipment (Group) Co., Ltd. have been developing long-term cooperation since 2008. They have successfully developed a series of high-resolution flat panel display lithography machines and advanced technology to make the large-area process capability of high-generation display TFT substrates square. The international level of 1.5 micron in the meter-level dimension has broken the world record that was originally monopolized and maintained by Japanese companies, and has achieved mass production applications. Supporting localization has a long way to go

Although mainland China shows that the industry's localization support is gradually advancing, there is still a certain gap between mainland China's display industry supporting enterprises and foreign companies. Among them, Japan and South Korea supporting enterprises have relied on the rise of the local panel industry to obtain all-round development, whether it is materials or equipment, have achieved absolute competitive advantage. To date, domestic panel companies have relied on their industry support.

Liang Xinqing, executive vice president and secretary general of the China Optical Optoelectronics Industry Association LCD Branch, said that at present, the core materials and equipment of the display industry are mainly supplied by Japanese and Korean European and American companies, and the domestic display industry supporting enterprises are very difficult. Like in the field of glass substrates and liquid crystal materials, domestic supporting companies can easily touch the patent barriers of foreign companies, and some LCD panels using domestic materials cannot be sold to overseas markets. The same is true for OLED materials. UDC monopolizes some of the OLED materials market, and all domestic OLED panel companies have signed cooperation agreements with UDC.

Ge Xing pointed out that in terms of chemicals, driver chips, polarizers, and reticle, due to the relatively weak technology of domestic suppliers, high-standard products do not have production capacity; in terms of glass and targets, the quality stability of domestic suppliers is insufficient; In terms of liquid crystal, there is a lack of key core patents and there are major patent problems.

In terms of displaying industrial equipment, at present, high-precision equipment such as process core equipment, pre-process cleaning equipment, inspection equipment, defect repair equipment, and OLED-specific equipment are not localized. This is especially the case, for example, for array exposure machines, color film coating machines, alignment film inspection machines, film group maintenance systems, and OLED packaging systems.

Cao Yu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, pointed out that there are two problems in China's display: one is that material technology is not fully grasped, and the other is that most of the equipment relies on imports. There are two reasons for the weak domestic support.

First, although there are many original materials and patents in the country, it can exchange patents with foreign companies. However, the materials of domestic research institutions have not been tested by the production line, and the actual combat experience is insufficient. At present, in order to maintain the yield, the production line generally uses materials with mass production experience. If domestic materials do not pass the production line test, they will always be on paper, and it is impossible to become a truly usable product. Second, equipment technology is more difficult than materials. In the past, several small private companies decided to develop equipment, but then there was no news.

In fact, device localization is more difficult than materials. Chen Wei, general manager of Shanghai Kai Shitong Semiconductor Co., Ltd. pointed out that domestic panel companies prefer foreign equipment with mass production experience, because of higher production efficiency, which is conducive to expanding production capacity, while domestic equipment is still very early, for panel companies. Unattractive. Because if the equipment is not good, it will waste the panel enterprise resources. If the efficiency is not as good as the foreign products, there are risks for the panel companies.

How to promote supporting localization?

The rising capacity of China's panel production has highlighted the weakness of localization. China's panel industry has entered a new stage. Liang Xinqing believes that the task of panel companies should be redefined. Panel companies should also take into account the development of localization and support for the development of electronic information infrastructure. .

Hu Chunming suggested that the "Three-Year Action Plan for the New Display Industry Beyond Development (2018-2020)" should set clear targets for localization, for example, to strive to cultivate Chinese brands of panels and upstream materials/equipment in three years. We will strive to achieve an overall matching rate of over 80% for localized materials and 20% for localization of spare parts for equipment.

Liang Xinqing suggested that the development of display industry support can draw on the fiscal and taxation policies of thin-film transistor liquid crystal displays, and tax-free strategies can be adopted for key materials that cannot be matched domestically, but once domestic enterprises realize the localization of similar materials and pass panel certification, they can Stop the tax exemption policy and produce it by domestic enterprises. This can promote domestic panel companies to use domestic materials as much as possible, and can also encourage the development of domestic materials companies.

Cao Yu believes that from a national perspective, it is necessary to concentrate resources first to support the development of one or two equipment companies. If these two equipment companies can really develop, it will drive more enterprises into the equipment field and promote the development of more domestic equipment.

In fact, it is not easy to improve the localization package. On the one hand, it is necessary to promote localization through upstream and downstream collaborative development. On the other hand, it is necessary to set up a public R&D platform and try to break through new technologies. Zhao Yong pointed out that the localization of materials needs to go through the stages of forming a special team, deep communication, verification testing, equipment transformation, and capacity support. In the deep communication phase, panel manufacturers not only need to communicate with upstream material manufacturers, but also need the support and recognition of downstream mobile phones and TV manufacturers. This process is very complicated.

Yuan Tong, executive deputy secretary-general of China Electronic Materials Industry Association, suggested that the government should increase the proportion of R&D projects to support upstream enterprises, and promote the panel through joint development projects (panel enterprises + materials/equipment enterprise binding).
