Company News >> China needs to develop the OLED panel industry against the trend 7th,Sep,2018
Due to the poor sales of Apple's iPhoneX, its supplier Samsung's OLED panel overcapacity, and even the phenomenon of price declines, in this environment, I believe that Chinese panel companies should continue to expand the capacity of OLED panels.
The global small and medium-sized OLED panel market is dominated by Samsung, with a share of more than 90%, followed by LGD's share of about 5%. China's OLED panel companies have a limited share. Last year, Apple's iPhone launched the iPhoneX for the first time using the OLED panel to make the panel industry excited. I believe that the development of the OLED panel industry is coming. Under the influence of the Apple iPhone, OLED panels will quickly become popular in the smartphone industry.
However, Apple's iPhoneX sales are far from expected. According to data released by the market regulator SA, the current iPhoneX sales volume is about 50 million units, and Apple originally placed 80 million OLED panel orders for the iPhoneX, which shows that its sales are much lower than expected. Due to the influence of this factor, Apple is not confident enough about the iPhoneX follow-up model that will adopt the OLED panel this year. Analysis shows that Apple's orders for OLED panels are only 50 million to 55 million, lower than last year's orders for OLED panels.
Affected by the poor sales of iPhoneX, Samsung's OLED panel production capacity is excessive, LGD has slowed down the production capacity of small and medium-sized OLED panels (LGD is a large-size OLED panel manufacturer for TV, which is affected by the rapid growth of OLED TV sales in Guangzhou, China. Investing 30 billion yuan to build an 8.5-generation OLED panel production line), LGD actively put into production of small and medium-sized OLED panels originally intended to compete for Apple's OLED panel orders, and now it is slowing down this plan due to Apple's decline in demand for OLED panels. .
In such an environment, in fact, for Chinese panel companies, it is precisely the opportunity to develop the OLED panel industry against the trend, and should not be affected by the slowdown of the expansion of small and medium-sized OLED panels by South Korea's two giants Samsung and LGD.
Chinese panel companies BOE, Tianma, etc. have already put into production of OLED panels, but currently they have low yields and limited production capacity. Even though they originally claimed to supply OLED panels to Huawei, the P20Pro handsets released by Huawei recently use LGD-supplied OLED panels. This shows that BOE's OLED panel may not meet Huawei's requirements.
One of the reasons for the slow progress of China's panel makers in terms of yield improvement and capacity expansion is the production of the most mature equipment in the small and medium-sized OLED panel evaporation process. The Tokki vaporizer has limited capacity. Previously, the Tokki vaporizer was produced. Cannon prioritizes the provision of such equipment to Korean companies, especially in the past two years that Samsung even bought out the equipment, which made it extremely difficult for Chinese panel companies to purchase Tokki vapor deposition machines.
BOE is one of the first panel companies in China to get the Tokki vapor deposition machine. This is one of the reasons why domestic panel companies have taken the lead in mass production of small and medium-sized OLED panels. Nowadays, due to the overcapacity of Samsung OLED panels and the impact of LGD slowing down the expansion of small and medium-sized OLED panels, Tokki vapor deposition machines are over-extended, and Cannon, which produces such equipment, actively sells to Chinese panel companies. In fact, in addition to this kind of equipment, other key equipment and materials for producing small and medium-sized OLED panels also appear to be related to the priority supply of Korean panel companies. Now the decline in demand for key equipment in Korean companies is precisely the opportunity for China to obtain such equipment. This will help Chinese panel makers to rapidly expand the production capacity of small and medium-sized OLED panels.
Chinese manufacturing needs OLED panels. In fact, Chinese smartphone companies have huge demand for OLED panels. Among the top four mobile phones in China, OPPO and vivo rely on Samsung OLED panels to occupy more than 70% of the market share in domestic OLED screen phones. However, OPPO and vivo have paid a high price for this. It is difficult for other domestic mobile phone brands to obtain the supply of Samsung OLED panels. If Chinese OLED panel companies' OLED panels catch up with Korean panel companies in terms of technology and quality, Chinese mobile phone companies are expected to digest these. The production capacity of OLED panels will promote the development of China's OLED panel industry.
In the LCD panel industry, Chinese panel companies have finally achieved the status of the world's second largest LCD panel production site through continuous contrarian investment. On the OLED panel, which is regarded as a liquid crystal panel replacement technology, China should expand against the trend. Opportunities quickly catch up with Korean companies, which helps Chinese manufacturing industry to get rid of dependence on foreign advanced technology industries.
