Company News >> Introduction to the working principle of LCD light guide plate 8th,August,2018
The working principle of the light guide plate: the optical grade acrylic sheet absorbs the light from the lamp to stay on the surface of the optical grade acrylic sheet. When the light hits each light guide point, the reflected light will diffuse to various angles, and then the reflection condition is destroyed. The front of the light board is shot. The light guide plate can be uniformly illuminated by various light guiding points of different sizes and sizes. The purpose of the reflective sheet is to reflect the light exposed from the bottom surface back into the light guide plate to improve the efficiency of light use.

Introduction: The design principle of the light guide plate is derived from the liquid crystal display of the notebook computer, which is a high-tech product that converts the line light source into a surface light source. Optical grade acrylic (PMMA)/PC is the substrate. Using the backlight module technology of LCD display and notebook computer, through the high light transmittance of the light guide point, the light guide plate is refracted by the computer to calculate the light guide point. The surface light source is formed in a uniform state. The product is combined with the principle of spectral analysis and digital UV printing technology and is produced under constant temperature, constant humidity and dust-free environment. It has the characteristics of ultra-thin, super bright, uniform light guiding, energy saving, environmental protection, no dark area, durable, not easy to yellow, simple and quick installation and maintenance.

LCD light guide working principle

The key to LCD light panel illumination technology is the total reflection effect of light in PMMA. We know that light will reflect and refract when passing through two kinds of transparent media. When light is emitted from the transparent medium with refractive index greater than air, the light will be at the interface when the incident angle θ is greater than a certain angle due to the difference in refractive index. Total reflection occurs, no light is emitted from the medium, that is, the transmission loss of light inside the medium depends only on the absorption of light by the medium, and there is no loss when reflected on the interface (light reflection on the metal surface usually loses 10%) ~15%). PMMA light guides take advantage of this feature.

LCD light guide panel lighting technology was first invented by Japan Mingtuo Company in 1986, called EDGE LIGHT, which is the mainstream method for backlighting LCD screens of notebook computers. Its working principle is to use the PMMA transparent light guide plate to introduce the solid color white light emitted by the cold cathode fluorescent tube (line light source) from the end surface of the transparent plate and spread to the entire surface of the board, which occurs when the light is irradiated onto the white reflective spot printed on the back side of the light guide plate. Diffuse reflection is emitted from a plate surface (working surface) perpendicular to the incident surface of the light source. The light guide plate illumination deflects the light incident from the end face by 90° by using the principle of total reflection of light on the interface of the transparent plate, and emits it from the front side, thereby functioning as illumination. The illumination method has a high surface brightness and a small size of the illumination system, and has high utilization efficiency of light and thus low power consumption, and has been widely used in products requiring large-area LCDs such as notebook computers and digital cameras.

There are three main functions of the backlight module:

(1) The reflector in the backlight module is used to reintroducing the disordered light that is not directly scattered into the light guide plate to improve the utilization of the light source.

(2) The backlight module is provided with a diffusion film, which has the ability to diffuse and uniformly diffuse light.

(3) The prism sheet (vertical and horizontal interval) in the backlight module is responsible for collecting the light so that it enters the liquid crystal module vertically to increase the brightness, so it is also called a brightness enhancement film.
