Company News >> The massive influx of global companies and the broad prospects of flexibility show why mass production is so difficult? 25th,July,2018
Smartphones make our lives more exciting, but the shortcomings of the screen are fragile and not durable, which plagues many mobile phone users. With the continuous development of display technology, if the flexible display is successfully mass-produced, it can solve the problem that has not been solved for many years!

Broad prospects for flexible display

The massive influx of global companies and the broad prospects of flexibility show why mass production is so difficult?

The flexible display has the characteristics of low power consumption, flexibility, flexibility and durability, which is undoubtedly a breakthrough and highlight for the relatively weak mobile phone industry in recent years. A professional organization once conducted a market survey. For large-screen mobile phones that can be folded into small pockets, about 80% of respondents are willing to accept such mobile phones, and potential market demand brings opportunities to the industry.

With the advent of 5G and the Internet of Things era, it is a good news for the flexible display industry. Because of the low power consumption of the flexible display screen, this is consistent with the trend of global green and environmental protection. In recent years, the country is also actively promoting soft display. The development of the industry, "Made in China 2025" clearly stated that the flexible display technology has risen to become part of the national e-information strategy, which is also an important measure to promote China's display industry to the high-end in the value chain.

According to relevant statistics, by 2020, the global shipment of flexible displays will reach 792 million units, compared with 3.2 million units in 2013, an increase of more than 200 times.

Large-scale enterprises have joined in

Because of the optimistic view of the flexible market, the global display companies are also in the process of deployment, with Asia as the leading soft storm sweeping the world, South Korea, Japan, China and other large enterprises joined the flexible industry.

In the flexible display technology route, there are two different options in Korea and Japan. At present, Samsung is very active in promoting the soft display industry. They have clearly defined the small size AMOLED as the main technical direction of the future flexible screen. In terms of the choice of flexible display technology, Japanese companies are more eager to extend their depth from the LCD technology they are good at. Chinese companies are relatively lagging behind Japanese and Korean giants in soft-display technology, but BOE has made great breakthroughs in small and medium-sized flexible AMOLED panels in recent years.

In addition to the above-mentioned enterprises, the good news of the expansion of financing and production lines such as domestic Visionox and Rouyu Technology has made us believe that the prospects of the industry are promising.

Why does domestic flexibility show the dilemma of mass production and dystocia?

Although the flexible display industry has a very huge prospect, it has to be mass-produced and widely used in various industries. At present, there are several major pain points in the domestic soft-display industry. At least in the following points, there is not a very perfect domestic solution.

1. The country has not yet formed a sound material supply system.

For flexible displays, the associated material system is critical. In order to form a truly billion-dollar flexible display industry, such as upstream organic light-emitting materials, production equipment, driver chips, midstream panels and modules, and downstream terminal applications have to undergo corresponding changes, which for many traditions The material supplier seems too rushed.

The transition of materials depends on imports. It is also the pain of the industry. Some professionals in the industry said that most of the key raw materials in the upstream of the display industry chain are still in the hands of international manufacturers. The proportion of domestically produced domestically in the entire supply chain is relatively low, which is also a direction for our future industrial development.

Second, the flexible processing technology needs to be improved

In order to form a complete industry, the maturity of the process is indispensable. Compared to traditional displays, the process is more complicated. Taking the flexible AMOLED technology route as an example, the processing technology is very difficult and the process is complicated. For example, the etching process damages the OLED packaging film, and the production yield of the OLED has been low. At present, there is no In-cell touch solution for AMOLED screens, which is a problem that has been plaguing many domestic soft-display enterprises.

On the processing of flexible equipment, domestic enterprises mostly rely on imports, which is the main reason for foreign companies to take the initiative in the flexible industry. However, in recent years, domestic companies have also increased their investment in equipment. Nine companies such as BOE and TCL invested in Kateeva, an American OLED technology company, which mainly uses inkjet printing technology to deposit a layer of chemicals directly on the OLED screen. The screens are available on curved TVs, smartphones and wearables. Compared with the current evaporation technology, this technology can greatly reduce the production cost and is more conducive to the production of high-pixel and high-life OLED products.

Third, the screen bending damage to the equipment components

The flexible display has the advantage of being bendable, but how much damage to the components of the device affects the performance. In this case, it is also a major factor restricting its mass production. For example, mobile phones, people spend a lot of time on the mobile phone every day, soft and flexible, but there are restrictions, if the user damages the mobile phone because of the screen, it will not pay for it! How to balance the life of the corresponding components in the flexible display technology and the mobile phone is a problem that must be considered.

Summary: Although soft display technology still faces many technical difficulties in China, there are still many mobile phone manufacturers who are not afraid of challenges. They have deployed mobile phones equipped with flexible display technology. Currently, in the field of high-end mobile phones, Samsung, Huawei, ZTE, Gionee, OPPO, Mid-range and high-end mobile phones such as vivo have adopted AMOLED displays one after another, and the trend is unstoppable. As the technology matures, it is believed that in the near future, it will become a standard for mobile phones.
