Company News >> From LCD to AMOLED: A "By Technique" Tour of Mobile Phone Screens 2nd,May,2018
Since the emergence of the first "Big Brother" with display screen in 1983, the development of mobile screen technology has a long history. In this process, LCD LCD screens have spanned more than 30 years, from black and white to color, from STN, TFT to IPS, from "mosaic" to 1080P, 2K, and even 4K. However, unlike LCD passive light screens, Samsung has created its own self-luminous AMOLED screen. After only a few years of development, it has demonstrated obvious advantages. It is not only a must for Samsung’s flagship mobile phone, but also gradually becomes another brand. The "high end" feature introduced as a strategic direction. Recently there are rumors that Apple, which has insisted on using the LCD, is also preparing to use the AMOLED screen on the iPhone next year. So, is AMOLED still in opposition to LCD nowadays, will become the mainstream of mobile phone screen in the future?
Self-illumination imaging advantages: high contrast, high color gamut, high response speed
Although the LCD screen still occupies most of the mobile phone screen, the AMOLED screen has been able to erode the market share of the handheld device screen at an alarming rate, thanks to the imaging advantages brought by the AMOLED self-illumination method: high contrast, High color gamut, high response speed.
At present, the AMOLED screen has already reached the same level of resolution as the LCD. However, in the above several parameters that affect the perception, AMOLED has almost overwhelming advantages: the traditional LCD needs a backlight to display, and the contrast is generally only 1500 to 1, and AMOLED is self-luminous, each pixel and light-emitting point can be controlled independently, a single pixel does not work when displaying black, the contrast can reach 100,000 to 1; in response speed, AMOLED can almost reach 1000 of the LCD display. Times, showing dynamic picture almost no smear at all; In addition, AMOLED's color gamut is also very broad, can reach the United States National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) developed a color range of 110%, while the current only professional surveillance-class LCD can be approached According to the NTSC standard, the LCD used on mobile phones is only equivalent to 70-90% of the NTSC standard. Some colors that cannot be accurately reproduced on LCD screens can be easily expressed on the AMOLED.
