Company News >> Pass Samsung to stop production of transparent OLED production line 20th,Apr,2018
Samsung Display used Transparent OLED as a strategic product for next-generation displays. However, after evaluation, it seems that due to the poor market development in the short term, it has recently been decided to stop mass production. The future production line will be converted into small and medium-sized production. OLED panel use.
According to Korean media MoneyToday report, it is rumored that Samsung Display has recently decided to stop mass production of transparent OLED displays. By the end of 2016, the transparent OLED display production line (V1) at the Asan plant in Korea will all be replaced with the production of small and medium sized OLED panels.
For the first time, Samsung released a transparent OLED display in June 2015 at the Retail Asia Expo held at the Hong Kong International Convention Center to showcase the world's first 55-inch transparent display. Due to the 45% transmittance, Full HD high resolution, and near 100% color gamut, a good evaluation similar to that of general glass was obtained.

Samsung also actively introduced its own transparent display at the International Household Appliances Expo (IFA 2015) and the International Information Display Exhibition (IMID 2015) in September and October 2015 respectively, and stated that it will officially enter commercialization in 2016. Stage; shop glass windows, automotive glass, living appliances, etc. are all potential market demand objects.
In January 2016, Samsung chose the BMW Incheon flagship store in South Korea to install six 55-inch transparent displays to create a total of 152-inch ultra-large transparent OLED display wall, revealing that Samsung had positively wanted to use transparent displays to make room for exhibitions, etc. Attempts.
South Korean industry stakeholders said that it seems that the transparent display has not yet been used as a stage for the planning of store infrastructure. Therefore, one of the reasons that Samsung decided to stop mass production of transparent OLEDs is that it is likely that Samsung considers the current market to be unsatisfactory and the timing is still immature. In addition, due to the surge in demand for small and medium-sized OLED panels from Apple and mainland smart phone makers, Samsung has also stepped up the need to increase production lines.
Samsung Display related sources said that the scale of the transparent OLED business is too small, so it may not be a mass production interruption. In the future, the company will continue to develop various new generation display products.
