According to a report recently published by the Economic Daily, Micron plans to sell NOR Flash products by focusing on growing and applying fast-growing DRAM and NAND Flash flash memory products. This makes the relevant application manufacturers urgently seek alternative sources of supply, so as not to affect the subsequent launch of new products.

However, according to the news of the new technology report, the recent increase in the penetration of AMOLED panels in the mobile phone market has increased the demand for the use of NOR Flash to maintain AMOLED color. Samsung South Korea, which currently accounts for 95% of the global AMOLED supply market, expects to ship 480 million AMOLED mobile phone panels in 2017, showing the demand for at least 480 million NOR Flash devices.

According to the analysis of market research organization Witsview analyst Qiu Yubin, the function of NOR Flash applied to the AMOLED panel is mainly to remember the state and compensate the current and brightness of the AMOLED, because the blue light in the AMOLED panel will increase with the use of time. After the market accounted for 24%, Cypress’s market share remained at 23%. About 30% of Micron ranked third, Winbond ranked fourth, with a market share of about 17%. Therefore, it is possible that Winbond may have taken over the NOR Flash business of the United States. If this is true, Winbond will be able to become the leader of the NOR Flash industry in one fell swoop. This will be a great help for Winbond, which currently has tight production capacity and has already won the order of Samsung's 120 million AMOLED NOR Flash orders.
