Company News >> Increased penetration of OLED panel for mobile phones NOR Flash shows price increase 16th,Apr,2018
Recently, according to print media reports, Micron, a large memory company, plans to dispose of its NOR Flash business, which will lead to a major reshuffle in the supply chain. As well as the fact that European automotive system makers have come to Taiwan to grab production capacity, NOR Flash expects to increase by more than 30% in the first half of 2017. According to the exclusive news from the new science and technology report, the current shortage of NOR Flash also includes South Korea's Samsung Electronics' color control for AMOLED. It is estimated that more than 480 million pieces of demand will be demanded in one year, and NOR Flash will be pulled up. The gains in 2017.

According to a report recently published by the Economic Daily, Micron plans to sell NOR Flash products by focusing on growing and applying fast-growing DRAM and NAND Flash flash memory products. Regarding this, some sources have alleged that Micron has issued an exit NOR Flash business notice to its major customers. This makes the relevant application manufacturers urgently seek alternative sources of supply, so as not to affect the subsequent launch of new products.
However, due to the recent global shortage of wafer supply, the original wafer fabs that produced NOR Flash have been fully transferred to products such as mobile phones, Netcom, power management and other application logic chips, which are rapidly growing, and squeezed NOR Flash production capacity. The addition of Micron’s intention to withdraw further adds to the shortage of NOR Flash chips.
However, according to the news of the new technology report, the recent increase in the penetration of AMOLED panels in the mobile phone market has increased the demand for the use of NOR Flash to maintain AMOLED color. Samsung South Korea, which currently accounts for 95% of the global AMOLED supply market, expects to ship 480 million AMOLED mobile phone panels in 2017, showing the demand for at least 480 million NOR Flash devices.
According to the analysis of market research organization Witsview analyst Qiu Yubin, the function of NOR Flash applied to the AMOLED panel is mainly to remember the state and compensate the current and brightness of the AMOLED, because the blue light in the AMOLED panel will increase with the use of time. Gradually decompose and subside, so the use of NOR Flash to maintain the continuity of AMOLED. In Full HD models, 8Mbit NOR Flash is required for memory, while QHD models require 16Mbit NOR Flash products. In such a situation, the demand for NOR Flash will be very large.
Qiu Yubin pointed out that in 2017, the market share of AMOLED panels in the smart phone market will reach 28% of that of 30%, and the demand for NOR Flash will become even more intense. Of the 480 million AMOLED mobile phone panels produced by Samsung, Apple iPhone series smartphones require 75 million units, which is one of the factors that has accelerated the price rise of NOR Flash products in 2017.
With regard to the current NOR Flash production capacity on the market, Wang Hong, under the market adjustment agency statistics, squeezed the acquisition of Cypress from Cypress in 2016 and became the world's largest NOR chip factory. After the market accounted for 24%, Cypress’s market share remained at 23%. About 30% of Micron ranked third, Winbond ranked fourth, with a market share of about 17%. Therefore, it is possible that Winbond may have taken over the NOR Flash business of the United States. If this is true, Winbond will be able to become the leader of the NOR Flash industry in one fell swoop. This will be a great help for Winbond, which currently has tight production capacity and has already won the order of Samsung's 120 million AMOLED NOR Flash orders.
