Company News >> LCD or OLED panel, which direction will LGD10 line panel factory take? 11th,Apr,2018
Although LG Display (LGD) has not yet decided that the 10th generation panel maker will produce LCD or OLED panels, it has reported that LGD has issued orders to Japan's Nikon to show that LGD wants to dominate the large-size panel market. . The exposure equipment that applies to the 10th generation line in the market has Nikon’s exclusive supply, and currently the order production of Nikon received by the Nikon has reached the end of 2018.
According to news from Korean media Kinews, industry sources pointed out that LGD decided to purchase Nikon’s exposure machine for the Thin-Film Transistor process and has placed orders. The delivery date is set for June 2018. Initial target production capacity is approximately 30,000 per month, and then gradually increased to 60,000 per month.
The panel exposure machine market is dominated by two Japanese companies, Nikon and Canon, but only Nikon can use the 10th generation line. The BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics, which had previously decided to invest in the 10th generation LCD line, also purchased equipment from Nikon.
However, when the machine platform is exclusively supplied by a specific industry, it is not good news for panel makers. The shortage of supply is also a big problem. When LGD decided to invest in Gumi's small and medium sized OLED plant (E5) in 2015, it was almost impossible to obtain the evaporation machine from Canon Tokki and almost missed the investment opportunity.
In addition to LGD, many panel makers such as BOE, Huaxing Optoelectronics, Huanghai, Huike, and Panda Electric also are eager to develop 10th-generation line factories.
Informed sources said that Nikon's production schedule before the end of 2018 was full, including 13 BOE, 8 Huaxing and LGD. If panel makers want to achieve 90,000 monthly production capacity on the 10.5-generation line, they will need 11-12 amorphous silicon (a-Si) exposure machines.
LGD decided to purchase equipment from Nikon, symbolizing the adjustment of the 10th-generation line investment plan. Now, only the product category is determined. Because the large-size LCD panel and the OLED panel also have the same TFT structure, the number of machines is limited. Therefore, it must be started first.
The industry believes that after LGD has obtained the exposure machine in June 2018, it will install other general-purpose equipment in the second half of 2018, and it will start mass production in the second quarter of 2019. If there is any delay, it will not be later than 2019. Season 3.
If the main components and equipments such as the glass substrate and the glass substrate can all go online smoothly, the volume production time of BOE will be about the first quarter of 2018. The manufacturers such as China Star Optoelectronics, Hon Hai, and Wai Kee will be in the first half of 2019.
It is highly probable that the 10 generations of production lines will give priority to the production of 65-inch panels. For the 10.5 generation line (2,740mm x 3,370mm), it is possible to cut 8 panels of 65-inch panels with cutting efficiency as high as 92%; if it is cut into 74-inch sizes, 6 pieces can be obtained. The rate is 91%.
According to South Korea’s industry, LGD’s decision to purchase a 10th-generation line exposure machine is like betting on the large-size panel market. If the demand for large-size TVs with a 60-inch or larger size after 2019 is not ideal, there may also be an oversupply collapse.
