Company News >> OLED China's patent application status of domestic listed companies 30th,March,2018
OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) has excellent performances such as ultra-thin, high brightness, wide viewing angle, self-luminous, low power consumption, low cost, bendability, and normal operation under low temperature conditions. The next generation of displays in the foreground. The principle of OLED is to generate light by recombination after injecting an organic semiconductor thin film through a positive load flow.
At present, there are many companies competing in the global OLED market. The most competitive companies are Samsung and LG in South Korea, Seiko Epson in Japan and Idemitsu Kosan, AU Optronics in Taiwan, Philips in Europe and Cambridge in Europe. Technology company and Eastman Kodak of the United States. Since 2000, these companies have submitted a large number of patent applications in China and conducted a large-scale patent layout. With the rapid development of China’s economy and continuous improvement of scientific research capabilities, the capital market has continued to develop, and many OLED R&D institutions and manufacturers have emerged in domestic listed companies, among which the well-known Shenzhen Ocean King Lighting Technology Co., Ltd. ( Ocean King), BOE Technology Group (hereinafter referred to as BOE) and so on.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the patent applications of major applicants in the OLED field that were published in China Patent Search Database before April 15, 2015, in order to understand the status of Chinese listed companies’ OLED patent applications in China. This article analyzes the listed companies or their holding companies involved in the development and production of OLED devices, excluding the listed companies involved in the OLED upstream industry. Given that there are still a large number of patent applications that do not reach the 18-month public date, the data for this year's statistics for 2014 applications will be less than the actual number of applications.
Patent application gradually increased
The author found through search that as of December 30, 2008, among the top ten applicants of companies involved in OLED in China, except that Philips was a European company, the rest were Japanese, Korean, and Chinese Taiwanese companies, and none of them were Chinese companies. It can be seen that Korean and Japanese companies have extremely strong competitiveness in the OLED field.
As can be seen from Figure 1, as of April 15, 2015, although South Korean and Japanese companies still occupy a considerable share, there are already two companies in mainland China that have entered the ranks of the top ten applicants. The two companies are Ocean King and BOE. It can be seen that domestic listed companies have accelerated the layout of OLED patent applications in China.
As can be seen from Figure 2, among the domestic listed companies, the largest number of patent applications is Ocean King, which has reached 2,159 items, which is almost twice that of BOE ranked second, and the number of applications in China is second only to Samsung (see figure 1). Ocean King is a company involved in special lighting, dedicated to the application of OLED in the field of special lighting, so the company invested heavily in OLED R & D and lighting applications, and in 2008 submitted the first OLED patent application. In the past 6 years, Ocean King has made new breakthroughs in R&D in the OLED field, and successfully registered on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's small and medium board on November 4, 2014. Prior to this, the company filed patent applications involving OLED from 2011 to 2013. It reached 2,130.
The second-highest BOE is the 2001 A-share market, relying on the strong economic strength of the capital market and continuously investing heavily in research and development. After submitting its first patent application for OLED in 2002, in the following ten years, the number of patent applications exceeded 1000 in one fell swoop, and in the past five years, BOE’s patent applications have always been on an upward trend. The number of patent applications that have been disclosed in 2014 has reached 477.
The old listed company Shenma Microelectronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shen Tian Ma), which was listed on the market in the 1990s, submitted its first patent application from 2009 and has since gradually increased to a total of 147. Similarly, Rainbow Display Devices Co., Ltd., which was listed in the 1990s, filed a patent application earlier than Shen Tianma. It submitted 8 pieces of paper in 2007 and reached a peak of 46 pieces in 2010, but then decreased slightly. It also reached 121.
Sichuan Hongshi Display Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Sichuan Hongshi) established in 2008 and Huaxing Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Huaxing Optoelectronics) in 2009 are not listed companies, but their controlling parties belong to Sichuan Changhong and TCL Group. The number of OLED patent applications submitted by the two companies is undivided, namely 227 Sichuan Hongshi and 228 Huaxing Optoelectronics. Huaxing Optoelectronics has submitted OLED patent applications since 2008, and due to the weak and unstable R&D capability at the initial stage, there has been no significant increase between 2008 and 2011, and there was a gap in 2010. In 2011, there were only 3 cases. patent application. However, after several years of development, China Star Optoelectronics has strengthened its R&D capabilities in OLED. From year 2012 to 2014, its patent applications have been increasing year by year. The number of patent applications filed in 2014 that have been publicly disclosed has reached 76 items. Different from Huaxing Optoelectronics, Sichuan Hongshi has not been affected by the company's start-up in the patent application of OLED. In the 6 years after the application began in 2010, its OLED patent applications have been evenly distributed. Except for 2011, the number of applications is 24 In addition, the number of patent applications for the remaining years has remained stable at more than 40, and reached 60 in 2013.
Give full play to advantages, accelerate innovation
According to a search analysis, OLED applicants in mainland China are mainly concentrated in listed companies and universities. Listed companies such as Ocean King and BOE have relied on their strong capital strength to go ahead of colleges in terms of OLED R&D and patent layout. It is worth mentioning that Visconnano, an OLED industrialization company established by Tsinghua University in 2008, ranks among the top ranks of applicants, and Tsinghua University also relies on industrialized company Visionox to strengthen its scientific research strength and the two sides form a combination of production, education and research. The model provides a reference for the development of China's OLED industry.
In the past 20 years, China's OLED technology has been booming and related patent applications have gradually increased. Although basic patents for OLEDs are still in the hands of applicants for the United States, Britain, Japan, and South Korea, enterprises in China have realized the broad development of OLED technology. The prospects and the importance of improving its international competitiveness.
At present, China's OLED is still in the initial stage of industrialization. Listed companies are among the best in the industry. On the one hand, they have stronger economic strength than non-listed companies and universities. Listed companies can use their own visibility and economic strength to concentrate. The advantageous resources of the industry, through purchase, R&D, etc., have enabled it to make breakthroughs in technology as quickly as possible. On the other hand, listed companies must also accelerate patent distribution, and relevant government departments should further increase support to help enterprises improve their international competitiveness. . It is believed that with the development of China's economy, China's OLED listed companies will be able to become powerful competitors in the OLED field with their strong capital strength and constant innovation.
