Recently, DSCC announced that due to lower-than-expected Apple orders, it is expected to reduce the utilization of SDC's AMOLED plant. Lower expectations in 2018 will push OLED panel makers to postpone or cancel new OLED plant expansion plans.
Currently, DSCC has released updated forecast data. Reducing expectations for 2018 by 22%, it is estimated that total OLED revenue will be 30.3 billion U.S. dollars (up 30% from 2017). Looking further into 2022, DSCC believes that the market's compound annual growth rate is 23% (lower than the previous forecast of 27%). By 2022, the total revenue of the OLED market is expected to reach 64.3 billion US dollars (below the previously estimated 79.6 billion US dollars).
In terms of smartphone panel shipments, DSCC expects shipments in 2020 to be 543 million units (13% lower than the previous 622 million units). This figure is still 34% higher than in 2017. Most of the reduction comes from flexible OLEDs rather than rigid OLEDs, and the average selling price of OLED smart phone panels in 2018 will be 49 US dollars (below DSCC's earlier estimate of 56 US dollars).
