Company News >> IHS: BOE is difficult to enter the iPhone OLED supply chain this year 19th,March,2018
Apple iPhone uses flexible OLED display to launch iPhoneX last year. This year it is expected to have two new OLED machines. IHS Markit estimates that this year's iPhone flexible OLED display suppliers will still be based on Samsung, and LGI Display will have a chance to become a supplier in the second half of the year. As for the Chinese electronic panel maker BOE, it will be premature to enter the Apple mobile phone OLED supply chain this year.
IHS Markit estimates that Apple is expected to introduce two new AMOLED models this year, namely the 5.85-inch iPhone XS, the 6.45-inch iPhone X Plus, and the new iPhone 9 with a 6.1-inch LCD; The increase in sales in the Chinese market may lead to the upgrading of older products and the launch of an upgraded version of the iPhone SE 2016.
IHS Markit stated that BOE has already demonstrated its ambition to become an iPhone supplier. However, it is too early for BOE to provide flexible OLED panels for the iPhone this year; however, due to BOE's business with Apple in the field of tablet computer panels this year. It is rapidly expanding and has the capacity required by Apple, so there is still a good chance in the future.
IHS Markit believes that this year's supply of iPhone flexible OLED panels will continue to be dominated by Samsung, and that Lejin Display is seeking to qualify for its panel supply in the second half of this year to produce the iPhone X Plus panel at the new E6 plant.
IHS Markit said that for AMOLED panels, the Apple iPhone will only use flexible OLEDs instead of rigid OLEDs; IHS Markit estimates that Apple will need to purchase 110-130 million flexible OLED panels for iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone X Plus this year. .
IHS Markit pointed out that Apple has not completely adopted the latest Samsung display technology in the iPhone X flexible OLED screen, and Apple may try to increase the use of flexible AMOLED technologies such as touch film packaging (TFE), low temperature polysilicon (LTPO TFT) and RGB striped pixels, It is used to distinguish current mainstream technology from Samsung Display.
IHS Markit believes that although only the Samsung-displayed flexible AMOLED was adopted last year, because Samsung Display is the most stable supplier, Apple may encourage other suppliers to improve other technologies. This also means that there is a very good display like BOE and Lejin. A big opportunity to become an iPhone flexible OLED supplier in the future.
