Company News >> Japan develops flexible LCD is no longer a patent for OLED 16th,March,2018
OLEDs are flexible, and many people think that OLED TVs will be the future star of the TV industry, not LCD TVs or plasma TVs. However, a Japanese consortium of 13 companies and organizations has been working hard to develop an ultra-thin, flexible liquid crystal display (LCD). The company said that they have found a new way to make LCDs. They use plastic films instead of glass substrates, which will make the LCDs softer and thinner.
Japan Advanced Display Materials Research Association is a member of the consortium (including Hitachi and Sharp). In theory, using multi-layer plastic films to display colors can replace glass substrates, but this is a complicated process.
The association said that its new high-density production process incorporates other types of film color filters. Obviously, this production method requires fewer processes, which means that the manufacturer needs less equipment. The association also stated that the new process can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 75% and reduce energy consumption by up to 70%.
They demonstrated a 3.5-inch flexible color LCD display that was only 0.49 mm thick and weighed 7 grams. They hope to use this technology in 2012 to mass produce bendable LCDs.
