Company News >> AUO controls LCD pricing 15th,March,2018
In the early morning of March 14, Beijing time, the Federal Court of San Francisco announced on Tuesday that a jury has passed a resolution that found that Taiwan’s AUO was convicted of a criminal charge for LCD pricing.
AU Optronics, the world's fourth-ranked LCD glass maker, has said that prices for some display panels are expected to increase. For example, a new generation of large-size display panels that are in short supply due to tight supply.
Due to the fierce price war, weak demand and high input costs, LCD panel makers have suffered losses for several consecutive quarters. AUO also revealed that the worse-than-expected losses this month have appeared earlier than before, but they are still quite confident about the market price this year.
Peng Shuanglang, executive vice president of AU Optronics, said he will increase the price of 7.5-generation 40-inch and 42-inch TV monitors.
He also stated that the current general display panel price is relatively stable, and AUO's financial status is more stable than its peers. This year, the 3 billion U.S. dollars will be used to repay debt and capital investment.

For Samsung’s plans to sell its lossy LCD manufacturing, President Peng said that they will provide them with a broader and fairer area. The cost of the industry will be more transparent because it will no longer be hidden behind strong groups and will no longer rely on the group to obtain fixed customer resources.
In previous trials, Taiwan’s AUO was accused of conspiring to collude with multiple manufacturers in an attempt to control the pricing of LCD panels. But in a jury resolution announced on Tuesday, AUO’s lawyer Dennis Riordan stated that Federal District Judge Susan Illston refused to commit crimes outside the United States. Prosecuted by dismissal.
The jury also ruled that AUO’s former chief executive Chen Tianzhu did not participate in joint criminal activities to manipulate LCD panel prices.
U.S. prosecutors accused a number of executives of LCD panel makers that they had met more than 60 times in luxury hotels in order to manipulate the prices of LCD panels and caused the American economy to lose billions of dollars. The jury ruled on Tuesday that the defendant’s illegal profits from the joint use of LCD panel prices amounted to at least US$5 billion.
Companies including LG admitted suspected criminal activities during the investigation, and Samsung reached a settlement agreement with US prosecutors and was not charged. AU Optronics and the company’s five executives, including Chen Tianzhu, did not admit to participating in criminal activities. In addition to Chen Tianzhu, the jury also ruled that another AUO was not guilty but ruled that the two executives were guilty.
