LG Display will supply Nano Cell LCD panels to Hong Kong-based TV manufacturer TPV in the second half of 2017. Following Skyworth and Konka, LG Display continues to expand its presence in mainland China and expand the Nano Cell camp in the world's largest TV market. Samsung Electronics also plans to expand its QLED LCD TV center on the mainland and the competition for high-end television standards between the two companies will continue to heat up.
According to Digital Times, LG Display will supply LCD panels manufactured by Nano Cell Technology to TPV in the second half of 2017, and the supply quantity and schedule are currently being negotiated.
Mainland TV makers Skyworth and Konka have massively released Nano Cell panels, which are currently in production.
Insiders at LG Display said it will supply Nano Cell panels to TPV during the year and are currently working with most companies on Nano Cell panel supplies.
In the first quarter of 2017, TPV ranked 6th in the world in terms of shipments in the global LCD TV market, belonging to one of the major manufacturers in mainland China and Hong Kong. TPV acquired the Philips television business in 2011, and LG Display maintains a close relationship with Philips and the two companies continue their partnership. LG Display formerly LG Philips LCD, is a gold and Philips joint venture in 1999.
In order to master the high-end LCD TV market in mainland China, Samsung is also devoted to expanding the QLED TV lineup with quantum dot panels and fierce competition with LG Music. Samsung will attend the QLED International Forum sponsored by the China Household Electrical Appliances Association to explain the technical characteristics of QLED. TCL, Samsung and Hisense, mainland television makers that purchase quantum dot panels from Samsung, will also attend the event. Samsung hopes to expand QLED camp.
South Korean monitor industry sources said that the mainland TV manufacturers in the low-end TV products mainly Taiwan panel, high-end models are made of Korean panel, because of maintaining good relations of cooperation, is conducive to obtaining orders. LCD market is still larger than the OLED, expanding LCD high-end product camp will become the key to success.
