According to the latest research released by WTSView, a division of TrendForce's Optoelectronics Division, on the 16th, the use of AMOLED panels in the iPhone series is almost a foregone conclusion. This has brought the panel makers and mobile phone brands in the global competition to invest in AMOLED panels of medium and small size.
WitsView's research shows that in 2016 the global production capacity of small and medium sized AMOLED panels is expected to reach 5.9 million square meters, an increase of about 16.5% over 2015. The agency expects that with the active expansion of production capacity at various panel makers, the production capacity of AMOLED panels will reach 14.4 million square meters by 2019, a compound annual growth rate of 30% from 2015 to 2019.
The study also predicts that in 2016 the global small and medium size AMOLED panel production capacity, Korean panel makers will still dominate, accounting for 93%. In the future, if the panel makers can find an entry point in equipment investment and technology improvement to successfully mass-produce AMOLED products, the global share of production capacity of Korean panel plants will decline to 71% in 2019, while the share of Chinese panel makers Than the chance to climb to 19%. In addition, the flexible AMOLED panel gradually became the focus of each panel factory's development investment. WitsView predicts that the flexible AMOLED panel will account for 61% of the total AMOLED panel capacity in mid-to-small size in 2019.
