Fan Boyu, a senior research manager at research institute WitsView, said that the active AMOLED panel production capacity is expected to grow to 8.9 million square meters in 2017 with an annual growth of about 46%. The major demand comes from Samsung and Apple.
Fan BoYu said that in recent years, smart phone panel specifications change, as the trend of the times, AMOLED mobile penetration will increase from 22% in 2016 to 42% in 2019. AMOLED panel by the phone designer look forward to, hope to stimulate the market demand back to warming, 2017 production capacity is expected to surge.
He said that AMOLED panel production capacity increased, mostly from the positive expansion of Samsung monitors to meet Samsung's own brand needs, Apple will also meet the potential needs of the panel.
He analyzed that for the panel makers, though mobile phone customers in China are keen on AMOLED panels, Samsung monitors will find it difficult to fully meet the demand. Therefore, mobile phone customers in mainland China will still have tight supply of AMOLED panels in 2017 and may even be out of stock risk.
