Company News >> Quantum dot LCD screen is the mainstream? OLED indicates this is unacceptable 19th,Jan,2017
Barry Young, general manager of the OLED Association, has lately publicly criticized the quantum dot display, which he calls the OLED screen.
Samsung has developed a quantum dot LCD display, and as a next-generation display, LG's choice is different, it chose the OLED technology. Both offer top-of-the-line image quality, and Samsung and LG are tit-for-tat in the display world, all claiming that their technology is superior. As the world's largest TV manufacturer, Samsung and LG around which technology better debate, OLED Association's remarks are undoubtedly fuel.
Barry Young told the media: "Some people say quantum dot LCD color gamut than OLED wider, this statement is wrong." He cited the display of professional DisplayMate data to prove their point of view, DisplayMate once the Samsung quantum dots LCD and LG OLED have been evaluated. "The results show that the color gamut of the two displays is basically the same, and OLEDs are even wider," Barry Young said.
Quantum dot LCD screen is the mainstream? OLED indicates this is unacceptable
Quantum dot technology has become a choice, mainly because it has two major advantages: quality and price, which Barry Young also know.
"Quantum dots are an amazing invention that improves the color rendering of blue LEDs and generates white light from yellow phosphors," says Barry Young. "Not only that, but because the colors are clearer, Up, with a higher contrast, although the actual test and no improvement.Quality dot LCD LCD TV prices much cheaper than the OLED, which is no doubt.
Still, Barry Young is still critical of Samsung's plans to produce quantum dot LED screens in 2019. Recently, Samsung claims that production will only be considered when the price of OLED TVs falls to the level of LCDs. Barry Young stressed that in the 55-inch and 65-inch OLED TV panel production, only LG's yield of 50%, the future LG need to further reduce the manufacturing cost of OLED.
Barry Young said: "Let the cost of OLED can be compared with the LCD, LG must be at least 75% cost reduction.
In the high-end TV market, Barry Young believes that quantum dot TV is not promising, because the OLED panel manufacturers production costs will soon come down. "If the cost of OLEDs is coming down, there is no market for quantum dot backlighting in the high-end TV market," Barry Young said. "High-end televisions are the source of profits."
