The high-end TV market is turning to 65-inch, but 65-inch OLED TV panel manufacturing costs, than the LCD panel 55-inch panel 90% higher. The main reason for the higher costs is the low efficiency of the glass, which is expected to reduce manufacturing costs by 35 percent in the 10-generation plant.
The cost of manufacturing OLED TV panels has been declining since LG launched its first 55-inch OLED TV, according to Jimmy Kim, senior principal analyst at IHS Display, a panel of materials and components for the panel.
Still, the cost gap between the 55-inch UHD LCD panel and the OLED TV panel is estimated to be as high as 100 to 200 percent. As there is still room for improvement in OLED, and LCD panel production technology is almost mature, this cost gap is expected to further narrow in the near future.
Jimmy Kim pointed out that OLED TV manufacturing requires more than 8-generation line of larger production, 65-inch UHD OLED TV panel in the 8-generation line manufacturing cost estimates will reach 1,300 US dollars.
