Sharp Corp. (6753-JP) has decided to cut its production in the main LCD panel plant in Kameyama, Mie Prefecture, since mid-December, with a reduction of more than 10%.

However, according to DisplaySearch statistics, the global third quarter of this year, LCD panel shipments have been reduced by 1% compared with the second quarter.
As the financial crisis dragged down the global economy and suppress consumer spending, the world's largest panel factory Samsung Electronics (005930-KR) has cut production by 5%. LG Display (034220-KR; LPL-US), AUO (2409-TW orders) and Chi Mei Electric (3009-TW) have also cut production.
Sharp is the world's fifth largest panel manufacturer, with a market share of just over 10%. The company is building a panel plant in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, and remains operating at the end of 2009.
In the Japanese manufacturers, Panasonic Corp. (6752-JP) has announced that it will cut LCD panel capacity by about 10% between mid-December and the end of January.
